Looking very much like it does today, this interior of St. Peter's Basilica in Rome from circa 1754 lets you imagine the rustle of people sprinkled throughout eh church and their whispered prayers. Notice how small they look in the great church, and think of their wonder and awe as they gazed upwards at the majestic vaults. St. Peter's is not just one of the greatest works of art and architecture ever; it was deliberately made to inspire awe in the people who came inside. Awe is one of the gateways to God.

For a long time we wanted to bring you pictures of the churches in Rome, but we couldn't find the right ones. Then we found this gorgeous painting! Giovanni Paolo Panini (1691 - 1765) was known mostly as a "view" painter, doing epic and ornate scenes, mostly from Rome. He was also an architect. Oil on canvas. Original is 60"x77".

For a frame, get an ornate or simple dark wood or gold. The ones we offer are not ornate.


** IMPORTANT ** THE IMAGE IS SMALLER THAN THE PAPER! There is a white border of about 0.5" inch for 5x7", 1.3" for 8.5x11", or 1.6" for 11x14" pictures. All Approx! Fine art printers do this because the images are almost never the same rectangular ratio of the standard paper sizes. It also gives the prints a finished look, and lets them look good in a frame without a matt.
