St. Isidore of Seville Patron Saint of the Internet
One of the last great scholars of the ancient world, St. Isidore of Seville was also a prolific author, writing many books, including his great Etymologiae, a 20 volume encyclopedia containing the summary of all the Western world's knowledge. It was like the Internet of its day, a resource one could turn to for information on anything known.
It took him 25 years to write. It was so comprehensive and so well done that it was used as one of the primary texts for education in the Middle Ages, staying in use for 900 years. Finally in the late 1500s, the knowledge of the Renaissance grew beyond his encyclopedia, and its use dropped away.
He was an Archbishop of Spain, known for founding schools and seminaries across Spain. He also converted the Visigoth kings who ruled Spain. They were Arians, a heresy that had been condemned by the Church centuries earlier. Isidore helped educate the Visigoth kings on the error of their ways.
He is one of the Doctors of the Church. Fascinating Fact: St. Isidore invented the period, the comma, and the colon! 560-636. Feast Day April 4. Patron of students, IT, programmers, and the Internet. (sources: FranciscanMedia.org, wikipedia.org)
** IMPORTANT ** THE IMAGE IS SMALLER THAN THE PAPER! There is a white border of about 0.5" inch for 5x7", 1.3" for 8.5x11", or 1.6" for 11x14" pictures. All Approx! Fine art printers do this because the images are almost never the same rectangular ratio of the standard paper sizes. It also gives the prints a finished look, and lets them look good in a frame without a matt.
- Acid free paper - Archival pigments, rated to last for generations. - Cardboard backer - Above story of the art - Enclosed in a tight-fitting, crystal clear bag.
